Ransomware and Data
Protection
for Microsoft 365

Ensure that you can access, control, and most importantly protect the
data you entrust to the cloud.

As companies increasingly move data into cloud-based applications, many IT teams think traditional best practices like data backup are unnecessary. After all, a SaaS application is always available, accessible from anywhere, and highly
redundant, so why is backup needed?

Microsoft 365 (also known as Office 365) and other applications are susceptible to ransomware attacks. In fact, most strains of ransomware target Microsoft productivity apps such as Word and Excel whether they are stored locally or in Sharepoint/OneDrive.

Our team has partnered with Dropsuite, one of the leading cloud-to-cloud backup tools; offering an all-in-one backup, archiving, restore and export solution.

Ask Yourself

  • Are you prepared when ransomware hits your Sharepoint shared drive?
  • Are you protected if someone deletes emails or files from your org?
  • Have employees deleted emails that you need to recover?

Point in Time Backups
Up to 12x Daily snapshots for user data, avoid data loss from ransomware by restoring entire accounts to a designated point in time before an attack occurred.

Item level restore
Retrieve data in the original format with file and label structure maintained in the backup.

Security and compliance
Dropsuite backs up data in compliance with Service Organization Control (SSAE 16 and SOC2 ) reporting standards.

Why have Backups?

Some of the most high-profile ransomware attacks that have occurred recently have been in Microsoft 365 environments. Encrypting your data and preventing you from accessing your data.

As one would expect, an active Microsoft 365 license is required to access Microsoft 365 data. Unfortunately, inactive or deactivated, user data is permanently deleted, and there is no rollback option.

When a SharePoint Online administrator deletes a site collection, all data will be placed in the Recycle Bin where it is kept for 93 days. At that time it is automatically and permanently deleted, and there is no rollback option.

When restoring older files from a SharePoint backup, the restore is targeted at the same URL. This means a restore overwrites whatever data currently exists in the site collection, and there is no rollback option.

Contacting Microsoft Support for assistance with any data loss issue can be time-consuming, and still may not result in restored files.

Automatically protect, recover and ensure compliance for all business-critical email data.

What can be restored from a backup?

  • All files (including One Note) and folders with the structure intact.
  • Contacts: All contact information (excluding photos)
  • Calendar: Events (including recurrence, attendees, notes), attachments and any calendars owned by your users.
  • All emails, attachments, notes and folder structure.
  • Primary, custom, group and team site collections
  • Custom generic site lists
  • Folder structure
  • Document libraries and sets
  • Site assets, templates, and pages
